DEDICATION is Thóra Sigurðardóttir’s contribution to the exhibition Under the Open Sky, presented by the Reykjavik Arts Festival 2013 in collaboration with the Living Art Museum. The work is dedicated to Gunnfríður Jónsdóttir sculptor (1889-1968). Gunnfríður was the first woman in Iceland to live and work as a sculptor. The building by which the pedestal stands was erected by Gunnfríður and her husband, sculptor Ásmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982), as studio and dwelling space for both of them. The work comprises a booklet whith a text on the sculpture of a girl by Gunnfríður which the pedestal was originally made for, the restoration of Gunnfríður’s pedestal in the garden of Freyjugata 41, and text for the house wall behind the pedestal.
